Onward to Palm Springs

After leaving the coast we trekked inland going from 20 feet elevation to over 4700 feet at times.  We drove in and out of freezing temps, up to 55F all in the range of a few miles.  The country north of LA and San Bernadino is very dry country and mostly treeless but there is a lot of food production. As one sign said "Where there be water, there be food".  We saw fields full of newly cultivated and planted veggies, orchards of pistachio, almond, grape, and citrus.  All irrigated.

We stopped at Blackwells Corner store near the intersections of Highways 41 & 46 where James Dean was fatally injured in his Porsche 550 Spyder on Sept. 30/1955. Blackwells was James' last stop for refreshments before the accident.

As we crested another range of mountains to descend into the valley that holds Palm Springs and Palm Desert, there were thousands of wind mills and solar farms all for generating power.  More about Palm Springs tomorrow as we will see it in the daylight.

Some good, if hilly grazing land.  Beautiful landscapes.

The first row of mountains and good bye to the Pacific (in the far background).

Deciding to avoid the congestion around LA.   4 lanes at 80 MPH.  Which way to go??

Yesterday's fresh snow depends on elevation.

Krista had to take a pic of this house as she thought the roof was quilted.
Hmmmmmm??
