A Maverick Visits

A friend, Theresa, whom I met through the Mavericks, a fibre arts group I belong to in Arizona, stopped by on her way to the west coast. Theresa just retired from her librarian career and is an awesome fibre artist.

Here are photos of two pieces Theresa had with her. She designed them after she saw Ursula Kern's work at Asilomar this spring.  Theresa did not take Kern's class but applied similar techniques to the two quilts shown here.   Using foundation piecing has been a good solution for Theresa as she has been using  fabrics and clothing of various weights and stretchiness over the last few years and has been challenged with keeping her blocks even.   I hope to try this technique too!!

A landscape piece inspired from the view from the window of a home she was house-sitting.  Foundation pieced  in square blocks.

This piece is called Shattered and is made out of Tshirts and Polo shirts of her sons. Again it is foundation pieced in square blocks. Notice that the size of blocks goes from small in the centre to larger and then largest on the outside. Also notice the colour choices and placement. Very interesting.

Thanks for sharing Theresa!!
