Started the day off with a scrumptious breakfast at Lazy Susan. Don had a gingerbread waffle topped with pears (local in-season fruit) and I had quiche. Looked too fancy to eat!!
We stopped at three stores today. Myrtle wood is the local tree of choice for woodworkers. We stopped at a woodcarving factory. Gorgeous pieces. Don bought a basket. I wasn't sure what to put in it. He suggested wool - I didn't disagree!!
Tillamook Cheese Factory was our second stop, where we got to sample cheeses as well as glimpse the factory workers making cheese. Bought some cheese for our lunches.
The last store was the Latimer Quilt and Textile Centre. They had two quilt displays, a room of looms for teaching weaving and various handicrafts for sale. Very interesting stop!
Of course we also stopped at various lookouts on the coastal trail. The coast is very rugged and trees look wind swept. One location, aptly named by Captain Cook, Cape Foul Weather, was a great lookout towards otter rock. Don got some photos of seals with his telephoto lens. Tide was just coming into a rock formation called the Devils Punch Bowl. Thundering and booming!!
By the time we got to Florence we were very tired. Fueled up the car. Getting around 6 liters/100 kms. Pretty good over the twisting and turning, up and down terrain.
