Hood River to Cannon Beach

Left our boutique hotel in Hood River and drove out back of town to see Hood Mountain and the fruit orchards. The area is full of severely pruned fruit trees and some grape vines. Pictures of Hood mountain in the mist make it look as if the mountain is painted in the background. Honestly, it really is there!!

We continued west along the Columbia River Gorge. This time we were able to see the view, as the clouds were higher. We went on the Historic Trail, off of the interstate, and saw some gorgeous waterfalls. Horsetail Falls is a narrow falls flowing straight down. The surroundings were all very icy. Made for some interesting ice sculptures on the vegetation. Then we traveled on to Multnomah Falls which was spectacular with two sets of falls and a bridge part way up.

Further along, past Portland, we traveled through the mountains to reach the Pacific Coast. There was very little to no snow here, except at high elevations. A mixture of moss covered deciduous and evergreen trees predominated.

At sea level we came to Cannon Beach were we finally saw the Pacific Ocean. The ocean is very wild here! Reminded me of Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island We walked the beach, saw Haystack Rock, and took lots of pictures.
