Up at 5:30 to get to the complimentary breakfast at the hotel for 6am. Joke was on us. Our Cell phones changed to Utah time and we were an hour early! Oops. Got breakfast at the K store instead.
Got to the trailhead for the hike shortly after 6 Arizona time. It was still a little dark, but the sun rose as we walked the wash to the trailhead. The hike was sandy at first until we got onto the sandstone rocks.
We followed the trail map that was sent to Leah when she had her name drawn to do the hike. The hike to The Wave is not marked. The number of hikers allowed on the trail is regulated to keep the area from being overused and eroded by too many footsteps.
The hike was awesome! Don, Leah and I felt like we were the only ones there. We did not see anyone else for hours. In the end we only saw 6 other people on The Wave hike.
During the hike we walked a total of 8.4 miles and it took us 9 hours. We were exhausted by the time we were done, but were awestruck by the sights!!
Arriving at the trailhead at 6am.
Special pass required to go on this hike.
Special pink pass had to be in view at all times.
Leah and Don atop of sandstone rock as the sun began to rise.
The day heated up as we continued our hike.
Interesting fossil remains in the sandstone.
Checking our private map as there are no trail markers to The Wave.
Almost all flower, very little plant!
Having lunch, above the Wave.
Our lunch stop at about 4700 feet.
Our lunch stop, viewed from behind.
Panoramic view of the landscape on the hike
These rock clusters look like igloos or brains?
