Monteregie Agricultural and Agro-touristic Tour

Less than one hour away from Montreal there is a region with an ideal climate, exceptional soils and an advantageous topography that makes it one of the most important agricultural regions of Quebec. As part of the Canadian Seed Growers annual conference we went on this tour.

We started at, Ferme Richard Blanchette et Fils. Here we toured a modern dairy farm owned by the Blanchette family. Here we saw three Lely milking robots that milk the entire herd of 600 cows. The robots were installed in 2013. Milk production has gone up using this method and the cows live a pampered life style.

Next we traveled to Semences Crapeau where Guy Crapeau has a seed cleaning operation that was newly renovated in 2013. This facility is near Daniel Lanois farm, so we drove through his yard for a quick glance of his hog operation.

After eating lunch at the seed plant we traveled to a cider making operation, Cidrerie Michel Jodin, and a wine making facility, Vignoble et Cidrerie Coteau Rougemont, where we got to taste samples at each location.
