Hike in Gold Canyon

A short hike in the Gold Canyon area left us inspired to do more hiking in that area. Don got some great photos too!

Chris, a friend from Carmen, Manitoba, invited us to see her backyard. She lives in the area called Gold Canyon and her house backs on to government land that has amazing views and many hikes. There is a housing development where she is but it is very remote. She has to be careful of rattle snakes, coyotes, tarantulas and havalenas, a wild pig that inhabits the desert.

We departed mid afternoon for our hike. The temperature was cool so we dressed in layers. The sun was behind clouds and occasionally would come out and cast interesting shadows on the mesas.

Gorgeous view of the south end of Superstition Mountains

Yes, this actually is a tarantula!!

Dead tree with distant view of more mesas.

Long arms on this saguaro!!

Don is reaching for a teddy-bear cactus.  It really isn't as cuddly as it seems!?!?!

Warm light hitting the mesa.  You can even see my shadow!!

Interesting play of light in this photo.

Chris is telling us about Gold Canyon area.
