A big part of Manitoba Prairie Quilters organization is donating quilts to people in need. The ABC (adult, baby, children) quilts are very popular. Many ABC quilts are made out of donated fabric. Sometimes the group even has challenges based on a theme to create some excitement for the members. This year MPQ organizers presented a Batik Strip Challenge.
To join the challenge each quilter was put into a group of ten sewing partners. Each person cut four two and a half inch wide strips of a batik fabric to pass to each member of the group. The result was that each person now had 40 strips of fabric (commonly referred to as a jelly roll). From this fabric they were to design an ABC quilt.
The results were stunning!! A total of 30 gorgeous quilts were made to be donated to some very lucky people. I would have willingly taken any of the 30 home and proudly displayed them on a bed!

More gorgeous quilts.
Notice the decorations on the tables to set the mood.
I love the braid runner sampler quilt shown in the centre here.
It looks very modern.
Many different ideas from one batik jelly roll.

Here I am in front of my quilt.
Diamond tooth saw blade.
This one is probably my favorite of the bunch.
Awesome use of colour.
This quilter said she had pieces hanging on her design wall for months and
rearranged it many times to get the colours just right!
A view from the back of the room. Very colourful evening.
