Drogheda on the Boyne
We said goodbye to Belfast today and caught a train south to Drogheda, a town on the Boyne River. The Boyne Valley area once was the ancient capital of Ireland and contains sacred and mythical landscapes.
We began our tour of this area at Monasterboice. The 5th century Cross of Muiredach is in the cemetery here. It is the finest High Celtic Cross in all of Ireland and is regarded as one of the best surviving examples of Irish religious art.
