On our drive to Calgary we were seeing some fall colours along #1 Hwy, but nothing like what we saw as we drove north of Broadview into the Qu'appelle Valley. Amazing! Took my breath away! Bright yellow poplar bluffs everywhere.
The valley is named after an aboriginal legend that tells of a young warrior returning home by canoe who heard a voice call his name and he called out, "Who is calling me?" In response all he heard was his echo. The next day when he arrived home he found out that his betrothed had fallen ill and had called out his name just before she died. Qu'appelle is French for who's calling.
