Deborah Barlow Trunk Show

Got totally inspired, if not slightly intimidated by attending a trunk show last night. Deborah Barlow, a long arm quilter from Saskatoon, showed a variety of her quilts from her very first quilt to her most recent works.

Deborah's first career was that of a florist. She learned a lot about the elements and principles of design through flower arranging. It is evident that she is a wonderful artist by looking at her quilts...

One of her early quilts.  All hand quilted

Hand-appliqued!  Amazing!
Pat is peeking out from behind the quilt.  :)

A waterfall art quilt.

Small art quilt based on fabrics that Deborah didn't want to cut up.
She used three pieces of that special fabric along with some silks,
then reproduced some of the design from the original fabric in the applique she added.

A more modern quilt.  Stunning colours!

Traditional pineapple quilt.
Deborah in foreground talking about the quilt.

A stunning art quilt that won an award,
the original hangs in a Saskatoon museum representing agriculture.
This second copy that we see here, is made with lots of textured material -
arctic fleece, suede, silks, etc.

This flower art quilt uses up to ten layers of organza to produce a luminous quality for the petals.

This orchid art quilt uses a split analogous colour scheme that really makes the yellow petals pop!

Deborah's latest art quilt.  Obviously she is a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan!

Deborah thanking everyone for attending and Pat inviting us to have refreshments.
Notice the football art quilt in the background, amazingly realistic!

Thank you to Pat and the Country Lane Quilt Guild of Portage la Prairie for sponsoring Deborah to speak.  I'm sure the dozens of quilters and artists in the audience were amazed by Deborah's work.
