Ballet

A few of the members of 2000 Splendid Books Book club invited their daughters/ granddaughters to attend the ballet in Winnipeg. The Royal Winnipeg Ballet was premiering their version of Margaret Atwoods book The Handmaids Tale.

Most of us had read the book and felt the ballet did a great representation of the story. As the setting of this sober tale is a dystopia, the theme was a bit difficult to portray in graceful ballet moves and some of the music was very dissonant. However, there were a few moments that were exceptional - Offred and Moira, Nick and Offred, and the hopeful ending - where Offred used ropes to suspend herself throughout her ballet moves. Beautiful! We all enjoyed the performance!
