Willie Carlton's Show at Portage Art Centre

Willie is one of the members of a Manitoba fibre art group I belong to called the Fibre Art Divas. We are very proud of her for constructing this exhibit based on the Catholic Church.

The exhibition is divided into three sections:  the Power and Glory of the church in the early years; the Fall from Grace during the sexual abuse and residential school abuse disclosures; and the Future of the church. Interestingly, some of Willies future pieces were done before Pope Fransis came to power, and some of what he is saying is shown in her work!

Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.

The pew, desk, robe, and chalice are all covered in knitted twine. Probably a bit of Willies blood on these from working with such rough fibre!!
