Attended the opening of the Rural and Northern Art Show at the Pavilion Gallery at the Assiniboine Park. The show had 10 pieces of art from the various juried rural art shows, for a total of 80 pieces. It is a great show! Here are some of my favourite pieces.
The big controversy at the show was the exclusion of one piece of art from the exhibit. The art censored is a linocut relief print showing polar bears behind zoo bars and calls it the Assinine Park. This piece was in response to the planned permanent polar bear exhibit at the Assiniboine Zoo in Winnipeg. Mark Renolds, the artist, is now showing his work at the gates of the park. He is getting more publicity than if his work was in the show! Rather ironic! I quickly got a picture of him at the gate as we drove in. I received one of his pamphlets. Good luck to Mark.
