Cyanotyping practice

Elaine and I spent the afternoon practicing how to make cyanotype prints in preparation for a class she will be teaching in a couple of days. Elaine bought the pretreated fabric from:
www.myblueprint.com

I ordered a silk scarf through Elaine and we printed it using long seed head stalks of lemongrass off a plant I have growing in a pot on the backyard.

First we pinned the 60" long silk scarf to cardboard. )We worked inside in the dark because the sun activates the photosensitive chemicals and starts the sun dyeing process.)  Then we pinned down the lemongrass stalks as best we could before taking the entire piece out to the sun. There I finished placing the pins to ensure the leaves did not move around. Then we waited for 10 minutes for the sun to do its magic!

Off with all the pins and the fabric goes into a bucket of water to stop the process. We rinsed the fabric thoroughly and let it dry. Neat results!

Pinning the grasses to the scarf to make the image on the fabric.
Just after I stood up the wind gusted and blew the entire project over.  One way to screw up the image!

Second attempt.  Notice the brick pieces to weigh the project down.

Watching over the developing process for about 10 minutes.

Scarf after the rinsing and drying.  Success.
