First we made a base unit. We chose a landscape photograph and placed a 3" square of tracing paper over it. We traced selected shapes and lines eliminating unnecessary smaller details. We made four copies of our base unit and rearranged them to make a pleasing design. Then we shaded in some areas to create depth.
After lunch we designed in a similar way using circles and hexagons. This class really could have been called art through geometry. Wish I had been taught math through these hands-on styles when I was in school. Maybe I would have actually understood math better then!!
Looks like a great class. I heard her speak at last year's Quilt Canada. It's amazing the way she sees art in everyday things. She must be a phenomenal teacher.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this class so much. Getting "out of the box" and seeing how the simple things can become so much more with a bit of geometry and twisting and flipping. This is a technique you can really have fun with. Great to meet you Krista. Boy, you're good - getting your blogs up so soon! Barb R.
