Day trip to Tucson was successful! We drove to Casa Grande where we had breakfast. Unfortunately the quilt shop that was supposed to be there had closed down. Along with many other stores as far as we could see the recession has hit this town hard!
On to Tucson where we had much better luck quilt shopping. The first store was listed as one of 10 quilt shops you MUST visit and was very impressive! The Quilt Basket is a gorgeous quilt store. Yvonne was very happy with her oriental fabric purchase, Annette also purchased some gorgeous oriental poppy fabric and I got a spool of thread.
Located in the same strip mall as the Quilt Basket was a fibre stir, Grandmas Spinning Wheel. I was able to poke my head in and salivate, even though they are usually closed Mondays they happened to be there. I will definitely have to get back there. Lots of delicious fibres!!!! The have yarn and do knitting and crocheting classes, spinning, weaving, felting, etc. The owner of the shop is a retired Biology teacher. Small world.
Then we headed to other quilt shops and bought a few more goodies each. Last stop was the old town of Tucson. Some very gorgeous building that are being kept up as heritage buildings. Also they have an area of shops dedicated to artisans from the area and traditional crafts. Gorgeous works. I bought a gorgeous mesquite root lamp base and a rain stick made out of cachoia cactus wood. Both will grace our Mesa home!
