Tucson Quilt Festival

Boarded a bus with a couple of dozen other quilters and drove 2 hours to Tucson for the Quilt Festival. Marj told me about it and I was able to get an extra ticket and join her (and many others).  It was held at the Tucson Convention Centre. Easy to get to and park. Perhaps next time we will take our own vehicle.

I know all my quilting friends enjoy seeing pictures of quilts, so here are a few of my favourites:

Art Quilt - Cholla Complexities
I like this because it is an artistic interpretation of the gorgeous Teddy Bear Cactus in the desert.

I Can't Surf Either
This quilt was entirely draw and painted on fabric and then quilted.

Galaxy
Original design created to reflect the wonders of the beautiful night sky in Tucson.

San Diego Mix
Inspired by memories of San Diego.

Finally Finished
Contains a gorgeous beaded medallion at the centre.

Hexagonal Delights
The carp and waterfall panel inspired this wall hanging.  Uses OBW techniques.

Summer Love
I can't believe this quilted started this quilt 15 years ago.  It looks like the new modern type!

Urban 9-Patch
Uses the Jenny Pedigo patern and special 'quick curve ruler'.

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner
A table is set with individual plates for hosting 8 of America's best-known contemporary quilters.
Each plate is designed with each of them in mind.  Can you guess who is coming to dinner?
Answer:  Michael James, Jane Sassaman, Ruth McDowell, Ricky Tims, Judy Mathieson, Yvonne Porcella, Libby Lehman and Carol Bryer Fallert

Alien Eyes
Adapted from Hajime Ouchi's Japanese Optical Art

The Sky is the Limit
Alaska inspired original quilt.

Fanciful Floral Flags
A whole cloth design using paintsticks and thread to embelish.

The Usual Suspects
The owls all have their own personalities!
There is always one in the crowd to be a little different!!

Together We Dance
Features Five Time World Hoop Dancer Champion, Tony Duncan,
and his family are portrayed in this quilt.  Look for the images in the background too!

Causey
Abstract scene of Mardi Gras.

Harmony
Group quilt given as a wedding gift.  Wow!!  Lucky couple!!

Galaxy 1
Inspired by experience at Mount Lemmon Sky Centre.

Off the Wall by Mary Vaneecke
This art quilt hangs about 5 feet tall and is three dimensional.
