Bali fiber art presentation

Finally had an opportunity to show my Bali Power Point. Renee will be very proud of me!

22 fibre lovers had a delicious supper and then fought to stay awake in a very hot stuffy room, while I blathered on for an hour! (I might have had more fun than they did!!??!!)

Quilt Retreat Classes

Art Design 1 and 2 we're both a success today. I had 11 marvelous women who learned appliqué and embellishment techniques. In the morning and then learned how to create there own designs in the afternoon class.

The colourful photos are the class morning work. The sketched on white paper are some ideas from the afternoon class.

Great day! I learned a ton from my generous quilting students!

THAA Fall Quilt Retreat begins

Off to Pilot Mound we go.... Hi hoe. Three quilters, three seats, and a van load of stuff. Proof that you really do take everything except the kitchen sink to a quilt retreat.

I learned the best way to get a quilt binding seen on...... Get other people to do it!

Home Routes

Scarlet Jane performed at Tiger Hills Arts Association Thursday night. They were amazing! Thank you to Lorna and Catheryn for hosting!

Re-shingling

Our house roof is being re-shingled. It seems almost everyone in Holland has had to get their shingles replaced since the hail storm we had in the spring.

I think the brown shingles are going to be a nice replacement for the grey ones. What do you think?

Batik Ribbon Twist

Yvonne quilted her Minot workshop quilt from a class that she took with Heidi Pridemore in the spring. It is gorgeous!

I joined!

I attended my first Manitoba Prairie Quilters' meeting. The executive were introduced and donated quits shown off. This September meeting is the first one since June, so there were lots of quilts that came in - a total of 90. These ABC (adult, baby and children) donation quilts are delivered around the city where they are given to those in need. The number and quality of the quilts was outstanding.

MPQ is subsidizing Karen Lay Buckley to do a workshop on hand and machine appliqué in October. To attend you must be a member. So ...... I signed up!

Beading and Nolan

The beading gang met at Nadine's house. Interesting to see the only photos I thought to take were of Nolan. He is so dear!

For Elise

Oriele Vane Veldhaus had a reading at McNally Robinson Booksellers on Grant to promote her book about her great grandmother, Elise Vane, who immigrated to Canada in the 1860's and homesteaded near Treesbank, Manitoba under extremely strange and tough conditions. Oriele spent almost 10 years researching archives, family letters, legal documents and other primary sources to flush out accurate details of Elise's life. The book, though long at almost 500 pages, is an extremely interesting read and preserves history of the time as well as the culture, traditions and treatment of women. Very revealing. Well done Orielle!

Custom quilting

I have done three custom quilting projects this month. Here is the third one. Very modern colours. I used teal thread with paisley and circle motifs to go with the fabric designs. Turned out very striking. Thank you Marie for trusting me to "listen to your quilts". I'm glad you liked it!

Colourful quilt

Bright and cheery, this Kaffe Fassett material made a very Colourful quilt! Annette and I have made it for a very Colourful bride!

Holden Duo Art Exhibit

Edyth Holden and her daughter Karen opened their art exhibit of paintings From Prairie to Shield, today in Portage. Edyth has been painting for over 60 years and has long been a favorite painter of mine. I own 4 pieces of her art.

This was the first time I viewed Karen's work. She is amazing! Great texture, colour, lighting, and depth. She may be my new favorite painter! Check out some photos from the exhibit. Can you tell which paintings are mother or daughters?

Wedding celebration supper

Congratulations to Jo-ann and Craig who snuck away to Jamaica this winter to get married. We finally found an evening to take them out for supper. Only took over six months! We enjoyed a scrumptious fondue meal at The Melting Pot, with an awesome server. Thanks Leah.

Car shopping

Don and I checked out four different car dealerships in Winnipeg today. The Volvo S80 was our first drive. What a gorgeous riding and comfortable car. Wow! The BMWs were very classy and full of computer technology, but not as great a drive or as comfortable as the Volvo. The VW Passat diesel gets fantastic fuel economy, 58 m/g, but has touchy breaks. The Audi A4 and A6 have beautiful interior detail, loaded with bells and whistles, and actually come in colors other than black, white, or silver. We loved the A4, but the mileage is less than the diesel. Sigh. Can't get everything in one package!! What should we do?

Fishing

Lake of the Woods is beautiful and peaceful. Don trolled from the back of Cuddy's pontoon boat. Caught a jack fish.
