Wine Cellar Supper and Light Show
Have you ever dined in a wine cellar? We ate an Italian meal at the Trattoria in the Byward Market area surrounded by wine bottles. Interesting. Rather dark but intimate with our Sunrise Credit Union gang.
After supper we walked down to the Parliament Buildings and watched Mosaika, a light show projected on the buildings. It was amazing! Very well done!

National Art Gallery
The National gallery is undergoing some repair work to the great hall. The whole room is made of windows and they are all being replaced as they leak. Big renovation and expense!
The special exhibit at the NAG is Sakahan, meaning to light a fire in Algonquin. It includes more than 150 artworks by over 80 artists from 16 different countries. Many different media are used in this contemporary exhibit. Very interesting!
One interesting exhibit was a tower of blankets by Marie Watt. She is interested in human stories through everyday objects. Each blanket had a story attached to it.
A new outdoor sculpture called Majestic is composed of lamp posts salvaged after the hurricane that hit Louisiana.
On the way back to the hotel I stopped and had gelato - peanut butter and jam, and chocolate raspberry. Oooo la la! I also found a yarn store right beside the hotel. Imagine that!

RCMP Musical Ride Stables
Toured the RCMP stables just 5 minutes from downtown Ottawa. Officers may apply to belong to the musical ride during their career. If accepted they spend one year training and caring for the horses and then two years with the ride. After the three years they are done and must go back to regular service. If they fail the training they may never try again. Basically a one-shot opportunity.

Touring Ottawa
Met up with a few of the Sunrise Credit Union gang for breakfast at the Novotel Hotel. We had arranged to do a tour of Ottawa together today.
We started off at the Parliament Buildings to watch the changing of the colour guard. It was VERY hot and humid; I felt sorry for the guards in their warm red wool uniforms and huge black furry beefeater hats.
We toured the Parliament Buildings - the House of Commons, the Senate, the library and the reading room. I love getting into the library. It is full of gorgeous carved wood walls and wood inlaid floors.
We ate at Darcy MeGee's Pub for lunch. They have the most amazing chowder. Even though it was hot outside I still had to have a cup.
Last on the tour was Rideau Hall, the residence of the Governor General, David Johnston. The area is over 88 acres and has a great biking path among the trees, many of which have been planted by dignitaries. I saw my first Ginko tree, planted by the Chinese President dozens of years ago. Neat!
The World Credit Union Conference started tonight with a reception at the Ottawa Conference Centre. There are about 2400 delegates from 60 different countries. Speeches, parade of flags from the 60 countries and entertainment by Circe Fantastique was spectacular. Then we were treated to refreshments.
I bumped into Beverly and Roger, friends from Newfoundland, that I met in Paris four years ago. They are at the conference too!! Amazing. We haven't seen each other for four years and we didn't know we would both be here. Wonderful!!

Free Time
In my free time I kept myself busy. I had a wonderful lunch and visit with Katelynn who is finishing her Masters Thesis at Dalhousie. I went to the Scotiabank Family History Centre to research ancestors who immigrated to Canada. And, I spent a lot of time checking out artisan work. Lots of fun!!
Awards Banquet
CSGA awards banquet took place in the Westin Nova Scotian. Great food - seafood chowder with phyllo pastry topping, salmon, and blueberry crisp. Awards were grandly delivered by president Jim and wife Brenda and elegantly presented in English by Don and in French by Daniel. Well done!
The Saskatchewan folks highlighted next years' conference for July 9-12, 2014 in Regina, RCMP duds and all! John sang us out Maritime style, and we said our farewells.

SeCan and CSGA Lobster Dinner
Three big pink buses drove us to Hubbard Beach and Shore Club for a fabulous evening. Mussels for appies and then two lobsters each for supper, followed by Blueberry Cobbler for dessert. Yummy!
Dave and Brian, a two man band entertained. They sure got everyone going! I think they had as much fun as we did!
