Downtown Mesa

I drive to downtown Mesa every Wednesday for weaving classes. Currently they are incorporating light rail transit on the Main Street. There are some gorgeous installations along the route. Well done!!

I really like the murals painted on this building as well. Rather Dali like. 

Chic Shells

I finished putting together a sample quilt top for Mad Bs. Chic Shells is a brand new pattern by Helen Robinson and her partner using the Quick Curved Ruler. They have done a marvellous job in creating a large variety of patterns that use the one ruler. I love the modern look their patterns create. 

Jim's Birthday Party

Went to Mesa Dines to celebrate Jim's 65th birthday. He had a lot of his Winnipeg friends there. Fun people. 

I noticed Michelle got him a dinosaur on his birthday cake. I wonder if she was trying to tell him something!!

Weaving Project - Scarf

I got my sampler done, so now it is time to do an actual weaving project. I have chosen to weave a scarf. I picked a hand dyed wool by a Nova Scotia artist, made of merino wool and kid mohair in yellow and pinks. The weft thread is a grey cotton. I am creating a extended vertical herringbone. 

I had to backtrack a few inches as I was weaving it too tightly. Now that it is woven looser you can really see the colours of the warp thread. 

I also learned to do a hemming stitch to create a tidy fringe. I think this project will turn out well. 

Sunland Springs Golf Course

Four of us, Jan, Melanie, Kelly and I, golfed nine holes today. It was a nice course. Sunland Springs actually has three nine hole courses:  Four Peaks, Superstition, and San Tan. Each course is named after the mountain range it is facing. 

Everywhere you go lately you see gorgeous blooms. On the course we saw an amazing floral display of a prickly pear cactus. Gorgeous flowers with dozens more to come!!

First Day of Fabric Painting

There were seven people registered to learn how to paint fabric to use in art quilting at Mad Bs. It was a lot of fun to see the fabulous colours that people were able to create. It will be fun to see what ends up being created from these gorgeous fabrics. I will post more photos in one week when we meet again in one week. 

Canyon Lake via Pontoon Boat

A group of 12 of us got together to rent a pontoon boat on Canyon Lake. A great day to be on the water as the air temperature was in the high 80F range. 

Steep vertical walls in the canyon made the ride very picturesque. We saw vultures, hawks and big horn sheep. Wonderful day!!
