Broadway Show - Beautiful

Beautiful: A Tribute to Carol King was a wonderful show!  Carol King, originally Carol Klein, became a paid songwriter at the age of 16. She continued with her husband writing songs for many bands in the 60s. After divorcing her husband of 10 years she begins to sing her own songs.

The cast and set for this show were great. The Stephen Sondheim theatre was a wonderful location - large but still intimate.

A fun ending, much like an encore to a concert had the audience on their feet and singing!!

Her she is. Hello.
The eyes image on the curtain pop open. Adele is here. But we're is she?  No, not on the main stage. As we scan the arena we see her rising out of the 'boxing ring'. Wow!!

Up the Empire State Building

The Chrysler Building!  (Thinking of you Dad!)

Looking south toward the Freedom Tower, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

We got up to the 86 floor of the Empire State Building. Quite a tourist trap, but fun to be outside at such a height and see NYC from above. Do you recognize any of the buildings?

Adele Anticipation

The eyes pop open!  The convert begins!

Female impersonator.

We are here!!

Curtain on stage with slightly moving closed eyes.

MSG
Yes!!  We have tickets!!

Madison Square Gardens is we're the Adele concert is held. We arrived in time to get a drink and relax in our seats.

The set was interesting. One side of the arena was obviously the stage. There was a picture of a set of closed eyes on the curtain. If you looked closely you could see that the eyes were moving slightly!  Then in the middle of the floor was a square that looked like a boxing ring. Hmmm. What was that?

At 8:00, showtime, there were still many seats empty for the sold out concert. NYC was busy with the UN meeting and traffic was crazy. Perhaps people were caught in traffic?  Just then some people noticed Adele sitting in the audience. An uproar of screams. She walked thru the cloud taking selfies. Wow!!  She seemed so tall!  Oh. It was a female impersonator!!  Ha ha.

Subway to 9-11 Museum

Reflecting pool.

Steel beam from wreckage.

Foundations of the WT building.

New freedom tower on the right.

Inside the 'dove'.

People, people everywhere!  Took the subway to the 9-11 museum. Walked they the new World Trade Building that houses commercial stores and resembles a dove flying out of a child hands. Beyond that you can see the Freedom tower.

We walked to the 9-11 museum and walked they part of it. It is enormous and very somber. Outside are the reflecting pools which are at the place were the World Trade Buildings once stood. A very appropriate memorial.

The subway was packed!!

Walk around NYC

We had a LONG drive via taxi to our condo on East 38th street in Manhattan because of the UN convention in town. Yikes!

We decided to go for a walk to get our bearings. We walked to the Empire State Building, the NYC Library and Grand Central Station. Had pizza at a small street shop and visited Times Square. Whew!

On our way back to the condo we stopped at a liquor store and a grocery store to pick up the necessities. A drink on our patio (very rare in NY) and then to bed. A tiring but exciting first day!!
