FAN Sharing

Our first activity at the Fibre Arts Network retreat at Edenvale Retreat Centre in Abbotsford was to design our own name tags. We had lots of fabric, fibres and bling to choose from. Lots of time to get re-acquainted while we did it.

Then after greetings from the committee, we began our FAN sharing on the theme of 'Reap What You Sow'.  Lots of amazing pieces. The best part is hearing the story that goes with them!!

Karen buried all these fabrics for a few months before she made this.

The butterfly is printed on silk from a picture of a monarch butterfly that she saw in Mexico where they gather.

Jaynie's piece represents reaping what you sow when you put ideas, thoughts, word out there.

Alison's piece, many parts of it come from various  activities she did this year.
I recognize the bee as what she did in Weyburn this summer.

Diane's piece has felting and french knots.

Judy used a photo that she took in Scotland and printed it on fabric.

Sue didn't know what to do for the reap with the sow theme as she isn't much of a gardener,
 so she thought she would do a weed instead.

Predator Ridge Golf Club

Arrived at Predator Ridge Golf Club, between Vernon and Kelowna, in the late afternoon. The suite has a full kitchen, balcony and gas fire place. We are in luxury!

I spent the next morning being lazy while Don rose early to golf the 18 holes of Predator Course. I hiked Birdie Lake, then met Don for lunch. After lunch Don golfed the other 18 hole course called The Ridge. 

I returned to our room to prepare my Power Point presentation for the FAN Retreat. When Don returned I cooked us supper in the room. Fabulous to just relax!!

Banff to Predator Ridge

First day on the road Don and I drove from Treherne to Banff. We did stop in Regina and met John and Shirley for breakfast. They we returning from their trip out west as we were beginning. Nice to see them. 

When we arrived in Banff we checked the rates at a couple of hotels. We were able to get a sweet deal on a room with a jacuzzi tub and a fire place. Went next door to have a scrumptious supper. In the morning we walked down to Touloulous to have breakfast. I had eggs with andouille sausage. A great reminder of our trip to New Orleans last winter. 

After breakfast we took a short loop drive around three lakes just north of Banff. It was a gorgeous day. Calm and sunny. 

We eventually got on the #1 Hwy west. Took the scenic 1A to Lake Louise. Then on through Kicking Horse Pass to Preditor Ridge. We had never driven this route in the fall. I was surprised at all the deciduous trees amongst the conifers. It looks very pretty. The poplars are especially brilliant yellow. Very pretty. 

Manitoba Fibre Festival

Helen and I attended the Fibre Festival at the Red River Ex. There were lots of vendors and even animals to view. In the afternoon we each took a workshop. Helen took one on using a drop spindle. I took mine on Speckled Yarn Dyeing. We bid on a fleece thT placed second in its category and we got it. Beautiful fine fibres!!
